So I did the math: we have been riding for 10 straight days with no breaks. The North shore of Lake Superior reintroduced hills, riding with skillful friends elevated our speed, and scheduling urgency required greater distance (a total of 1,305 km). We really need a break, and that comes tomorrow, in the form of a short ride with the Collingwood PD community.
Every typical day starts with Jim charting or confirming our route. It gets evaluated for safety, length, difficulty, scenery and pacing of stops. Jim says that this is not his inherent skill, but it is.
Every once in a while we forget about all that process and procedure, and put ourselves in the hands of someone with good local knowledge (like we did so successfully with Andy in Vancouver). On this day we were thrilled to be escorted by James, a masterful competitive racer who knows his way around the streets of … we’ll, ,,, everywhere. That’s how you turn busy Friday traffic into bucolic tree-lined country roads – local knowledge.
We regroup for our usual You Tube Live chat at 7:00pm (remember to tune in!) contend with the usual maelstrom of accommodation challenges, and crawl wearilly to bed before collapsing.
So this is what stronger feels like 😬
